The C300 Mark II is the new and improved version of the C300 Cinema EOS camera series. This iteration introduced 4K recording, Canon Log 3, and slow motion to the mix, all of which help ease it into the new generation of super 35mm cameras coming out. These features packed in the familiar form factor of the extremely popular C300 make it a no-brainer when looking to upgrade your shoot’s overall image quality.

As with the previous version of C300 you are able to record 1080p up to 60 frames in normal recording mode. And now, you are able to set the camera into S&Q mode to allow for 120fps recording in a cropped mode. This camera can also shoot in 4K up to 30fps internally, enabling more options in post-production and future proofing for your footage.

The new Canon Log 3 takes the best parts of the previous Canon Logs and combines them into one pleasing log form. Many people still decide to shoot in Canon Log 2 in order to squeeze a bit more dynamic range out of the camera’s sensor.

All models of the C300 Mark II include the Dual Pixel AF sensor inside of the body. This new autofocus feature allows for extremely fast and accurate tracking of subjects which makes it a perfect camera for putting on a gimbal such as the MōVl Pro or the MōVl M15. This also makes it a preferable option for run-and-gun shooting while on a shoulder rig.

Ready Rig GS – Practical Weight Support for Gimbal Mounted Cameras

With a combination of iso-elastic and carbon fiber, the Ready Rig GS is lighter and simpler than it’s competitors.  It’s also set up for the operator to make quick adjustments on the fly to increase or decrease the tension.  Additionally, they have designed a quick release system for the straps that attach to the gimbal so you can click in and out of the setup easily. It’s pretty amazing for making operating a handheld gimbal more sustainable over a longer period.  We were so impressed with it, we ordered one on the NAB show floor and expect it to arrive in about a month.

Just before NAB 2015, Freefly announced their new dual operator control system called Mimic.  This is a huge help in dual operator mode when one person is moving through the scene with the MōVI and a 2nd operator is framing the shot remotely.  Instead of having to use a system of joysticks or wheels the Mimic pairs with the MōVI gimbal wirelessly and matches your movements for pan, tilt and roll for more natural moves.  The zero delay response time is extremely impressive and it makes the dual operator mode a much more useful solution.  Within a couple minutes, even a novice can get a good feel for it. For the past 10 years we have rented out our skateboard slider with super smooth wheels on pipe dollies for a variety of cheats, micro dolly moves and  both over and underslung tracking moves. The skateboard dolly requires  low boy combo (or Junior Combos for underslung) stands to mount and provides an excellent camera platform for adding single axis dynamic motion to any shot.  Steel pipe allows for payload weights up to 70 lbs. while aluminum slider bars offer slightly less. Decimator Design’s MC-Quad: The Director’s Best Friend

Multicam shoots can be difficult. Directing four cameras can be downright strenuous. Having a monitor for each camera is cumbersome, expensive and simply a pain in the neck.

That’s where Decimator Design’s MD-Quad comes in.

The MD-Quad is a very helpful tool for directors and ACs alike. You can feed the MD-Quad up to four 3G/HD/SDI signals and output to a single HDMI or SDI monitor in full 4:4:4, creating an easy to use multi-view screen. The Picture This Lens Department

Buying lenses is an expensive investment and can be tricky when choosing which lens to buy.  You have to look at your inventory of cameras, what systems are needed, what the marketplace demands and what lenses will offer a good return.  Lens pioneers Zeiss and ARRI together created a family of lenses with an interchangable mount system that works with most of our cameras.  This being said, Picture This has purchased over a dozen Zeiss & ARRI lenses over the past two years including the Zeiss CZ.2 70-200mm T2.9, Zeiss LWZ.2 15.5-45mm T2.6, Zeiss ZE Prime Sets, Zeiss CP.2 Sets and the ARRI Alura 18-80mm T2.6 lens.  Other recent purchases include the Fujinon13x4.5 HD WA Zoom, Canon Trinity Sets, Achromatic Diopters, Assorted Adaptors, Zoom Controls and ARRI matte boxes.  As for the future, we’re very interested in the new Fujinon Cabrio Zoom Lenses, ARRI CZ.2 28-80mm T2.9 and CZ.2 15-30mm T2.9 wide angle compact zoom lens.  The lens department is constantly updating so be sure to check our rate card frequently!

A Message from Will Walle – Equipment Manager

In recent years we’ve seen the video production industry adopt larger format imager cameras to give their productions more cinematic images. The Canon DSLRs were at the forefront of this revolution, and although these cameras produced beautiful images, they were by no means production friendly. More recently, camera manufacturers such as Canon and Sony melded these large imagers into easy to use video cameras such as the Canon C300, Sony FS700, and Sony PMW-F5. These cameras afford their operators tools such as professional audio XLR inputs, zebras, waveform monitors, reliable video outputs and all the other necessities an operator is accustomed to.

Looking forward to the future, we see companies like Fujinon releasing lenses such as the Cabrio Zoom Lenses, the highest quality cinema lenses with a servo grip traditionally seen on B4 mount ENG lenses. Sony has just announced a B4 mount lens adapter for use on the PMW-F5, unlocking a wealth of possibilities for portability and ease of use with out an entire camera crew required. Zeiss is following up the success of their interchangeable mount Compact Primes and Compact Zooms with the new 15-30mm T2.9 wide angle Compact Zoom, offering beautiful images in a compact, lightweight lens. ARRI, having had great success with their ALEXA camera, just announced the new AMIRA camera, aimed at ENG and documentary productions. Innovations such as these are propelling the ENG market and cinema markets together to form new hybrid cameras that show case the best of both worlds.
